Service Learning is an opportunity for students to earn college credit by volunteering at local agencies within their community.

According to Ohio Campus Compact, (OCC, a non-profit organization established to support the development of student and institutional participation in community public service) “Service Learning is a teaching method which combines community service with academic instruction as it focuses on critical, reflective thinking and civic responsibility…”

Students can enroll in Service Learning at the time they register for classes. For every credit hour a student signs up for, 20 Service Learning hours must be completed. Community Service Learning hours can be completed at local non-profit agencies with the approval of the instructor. Not only will students be earning college credit, they will be participating in community service activities related to their college concentration, serving their community, and developing leadership skills.
