Duke Energy Visits St. Martin Campus to See Sustainability Project

Representatives from Duke Energy visited the St. Martin campus on Dec. 21 to view the solar light project spearheaded by the Spring 2011 Sustainable Energy class.  Funded by the Duke Energy Foundation Community Sustainability Grant Program, the 15-week class allowed students to learn about environmental issues and solutions and potential new ways to supply energy resources.  The class was followed by a six-week summer practicum, where the students researched a project that addressed a sustainability issue and then recommended and implemented the solar light in the parking lot behind the Mongan Academic building.  Pictured (l to r) with the solar light are Josh and Rose Pence, students from the class; Johnna Reeder, VP of Community Relations and Economic Development for Duke Energy; Eric Davenport, Instructor for the class; and Warren Walker, District Manager, Community and Government Relations for Duke Energy.
