Fast Facts

How many hours are needed to be considered a full time student?

For aid purposes, full-time means at least 12 credit hours each term. At Chatfield, 12 credit hours is usually 4 courses. A three-quarter time student takes 9, 10, or 11 credit hours. A half-time student takes 6, 7, or 8 credit hours.

What can I do if I cannot locate my federal tax returns for last year?

Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and ask for a transcript of your tax data for financial aid purposes. This usually arrives at your home in 10 days.

When is my payment due?  What payment options are available?

Chatfield College offers the following payment options:  single payment, two payments, weekly or monthly payments.  All semester charges must be paid in full by the end of the semester.

Can I charge my books to my account?

Books cannot be charged to your student account unless you have sufficient financial aid to cover them.  You can obtain a book voucher if this is the case.  Otherwise, students should be prepared to pay for their books.

What if I am expecting financial aid that does not appear on my billing statement?

You should check with the Financial Aid Office to be sure that all paperwork is complete.  You are responsible for all charges on your bill until aid money has bee received and posted to your account.

What if I cannot attend one of the terms for which I have an award?

The portion for that term will be returned to the funding source and will be used to help another eligible student. Aid not used for one term will not be added to the aid for the next term. If you do not use all your aid, it will have no effect on future eligibility.

When and how would I get a refund check?

In some cases, students receive a surplus of financial aid, which could result in a credit balance on their student account.  Students who encounter this situation and desire a refund should fill out a Refund Request form, which are available in the front office.  Checks will be issued in accordance with the accounts payable schedule at the next check writing, usually within one week.

What if I drop courses or leave school?

Depending on the date of the enrollment change, all or part of your aid awards may need to be returned to funding sources. Chatfield's refund policy is in our catalog. You MUST notify the Registrar of such changes in your course schedule. Withdrawals may affect Satisfactory Progress.

Can I transfer aid from one school to another
?

Unused Federal Pell Grant may be transferred. Unused Ohio Instructional Grant may be transferred to another Ohio college but the amounts may change. Scholarships and grants awarded by one college will not transfer to another. Federal Student Loans will not transfer because the new school must certify based on their costs and aid package.
