Chatfield College and Duke Energy to Present Energy Series

March 11th, 2013

Duke Energy and Chatfield College will present a series on energy needs and efficiency in southwest Ohio.  The four part series is designed to examine the delicate balance among energy needs, respect for the environment, community concern about jobs for its residents, and the economic advantages in attracting corporate expansion to this area.

The series – entitled Chatfield Stem Institute:  Investigating the Future of Energy – will consist of three site visits: a fossil fuel plant, the Duke Energy Envision Center, and Potterhill Homes to experience an example of energy efficient construction using geothermal systems.  The final seminar of the series will feature a forum which will be open to the public.  A panel, consisting of experts within the energy industry and program participants, will discuss their findings and address questions from the audience.  The series is being offered to school administrators in Adams, Brown, and Clermont counties.

“Chatfield College has agreed to host the series because we believe that we are in a position to provide a nonpartisan forum about the challenges in providing clean, affordable, renewable energy,” said John P. Tafaro, President.  “This falls within Chatfield’s mission as a liberal arts college and within our responsibilities as actively involved community members.”

Chatfield College is a private, Catholic, liberal arts college offering the Associate of Arts degree at its St. Martin campus in northern Brown County, and is an open enrollment college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Chatfield’s open enrollment policy means that prospective students need only have a High School Diploma or GED to attend Chatfield and will be guided individually through the enrollment and Financial Aid application process.  Chatfield’s accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission allows credits earned at Chatfield to easily transfer to four-year colleges.  The St. Martin campus is located at 20918 State Route 251; St. Martin, OH  45118.
