Chatfield College Enrollment at Record High

August 25th, 2010

Official numbers show a fall semester enrollment gain of more than 70% over last year.

The private, Catholic, two-year liberal arts college has been experiencing larger than average growth this year.   On average, community colleges, trade schools, and other two year schools have seen anywhere from a 25 to 30 percent increase in enrollment over the previous year.  Chatfield's Summer 2010 enrollment grew by nearly 60% over the previous year, and the college, expecting fall enrollment to show similar growth, added extra classes to the fall schedule and recruited additional faculty to prepare for the increase.

“Right now, Chatfield is the fastest growing college in the tri-state,” says Curt Cotter, Director of Admissions.  “People are coming back to school because of the economy, and nearly all colleges nationwide are seeing an increase as a result.  But, more and more people are choosing Chatfield because they want an education that includes values and ethics, and encourages a love of learning.  They want a liberal arts education.”

“Some educational programs focus more on creating experts in ever-more specialized fields,” explains Cotter.  “With a liberal arts education, Chatfield graduates are able to make informed judgments even on matters outside their particular competence. They enter the world as well-trained, well-rounded individuals.”

Cotter adds that although the college has added classes and faculty to accommodate the increase in enrollment, the emphasis at Chatfield is still on smaller class sizes and personal interaction between students and instructors.  “Our student/teacher ratio is approximately seven to one,” says Cotter.

“Our students love the interaction they have with their instructors and classmates.  It's what we're known for.  The college is, and always will be, dedicated to maintaining smaller class sizes.”

Chatfield offers the Associate of Arts degree at its St. Martin campus in northern Brown County, and is an open enrollment college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

Chatfield's open enrollment policy means that prospective students need only have a High School Diploma or GED to attend Chatfield and will be guided individually through the enrollment and Financial Aid application process.  Chatfield's accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission allows credits earned at Chatfield to easily transfer to four-year colleges.

The St. Martin campus is located at 20918 State Route 251; St. Martin, OH  45118.   The Cincinnati location is at 1800 Logan Street; Cincinnati, OH  45202.  For more information, visit the website at www.chatfield.edu, call 513-875-3344, 513-921-9856, or emailadmissions@chatfield.edu.
