Chatfield College Announces Winners of 2012 Quilt & Craft Show

May 2nd, 2012

Neither the unseasonable cold nor the rain dampened the spirits for those who participated in the 2012 Quilt and Craft Show at Chatfield College.  Despite the less-than-perfect weather conditions, nearly 400 guests attended the annual event at the St. Martin campus on Saturday, April 28.

The show featured over 40 different crafters and vendors, 54 quilts, music by Mama's Porch, and food by Fat Boy's Dream Floating Restaurant.  This year's show also included the first annual 5K Fun Run/Walk prior to the event.

Quilters were invited to enter any type of themed quilts to display in the show and/or seasonal themed quilts in the quilt contest.  Ribbon winners of the “Celebrate the Seasons” Quilt Contest were Wall hanging/Hand quilted:  Dee Brown " Primitive Baltimore; Bed Quilt/Hand quilted:  Andrea Turner " Basket of Flowers; Wall hanging/Machine quilted: Kathy Shannon " Spring on God's Acre; Bed Quilt/Machine quilted: Carol Phipps " Christmas Cactus.  All four of these quilts also won overall Best of Show (judged against all quilts in display and contest) in their respective categories.

Carol Phipps' Christmas Cactus went on to win the viewer's choice ribbon in the Wall Hanging/Hand quilted category.  Other viewer's choice winners were Bed Quilt/Hand quilted:  Dolores Coffman " Iris Quilt, Wall hanging/Hand quilted:  Cheryl Kern " Buttons and Bows, and Wall hanging/Machine quilted:  Dee Brown " Spring in Savannah.  Mel Danenbergs was the lucky winner of the 2012 Raffle Quilt.

A special thank you to Kathryn Green, the sponsor of the Quilt Ribbons, as well as First State Bank for the free carriage rides offered throughout the day.

Plans are underway for next year's show, to be held Saturday, April 27, which will also include a Classic Car/Truck Show.
