Applying for Financial Aid

65.jpg

While there are many types of assistance considered financial aid, the most common forms are federal and state grants and student loans. There is one application,The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), used fully or in part to determine eligibility for most financial aid sources. However, any resource you use to help you meet your cost of attending college is considered financial aid.

New Students

Follow our 7 Easy Steps to Apply for Financial Aid to apply for federal and state assistance.

Set aside time early in your college research to investigate and apply for other sources of financial assistance from local community, professional or fraternal organizations, your employer, veterans, and national scholarship searches online.

Scholarships may be an important resource in your search for financial assistance. A separate application is generally required for each scholarship for which you wish to apply. Check out the scholarship links listed under Types of Financial Aid. Apply early!

Continuing Students

The FAFSA form must be completed and submitted for each academic year. After January 1 of each year, go online at www.fafsa.ed.gov and, using the most current year's completed tax return, fill in and submit the FAFSA. Chatfield's academic year begins with our Fall Semester (August) and runs through the Summer Term (ending in July).

Scholarships may be one-time only, renewable, or require reapplication. Check the status of any scholarships you were awarded to see what is required of you to receive the scholarship again.

Student loan funds may require a new loan application. Check with the Financial Aid Office to determine if any new paperwork is required for student loan funds.
